Writing

At Buglawton we have spent time developing our Writing curriculum around exciting and engaging texts. Throughout their Buglawton years, children will describe creatures from the Gruffalo to Grendal, adventure from Grandad's Island to the Amazon Rainforest, debate enviornmental issues and report on historical events such as WW1 and the Great Fire of London. The texts we have formed our Writing journey on expand children's learning and create exciting Writing experiences.

Writing is taught in the same way in all classes. A process is followed which we believe allows children to grasp a firm understanding of the genre before attempting to write. The writing process is taught as follows:

Text Immersion (looking at and understanding features of a particular genre)

Analysis (of the type of focus text)

Grammar and Punctuation (specifically needed in order to write in a particular style)

Talkabout writing (an opportunity to verbalise ideas)

Planning (an opportunity to plan how the writing will look)

Draft (a first go at writing their piece)

Edit (improving their writing)

Staff support children through each of the writing stages in order to maximise the finished product.
